As schools remain closed to stop the spread of COVID-19, organizations around the world, including TGR Foundation, are coming together for a global day of giving and unity on May 5 for Giving Tuesday Now.
TGR Foundation began working to further support students, educators and parents at the start of social distancing and has since launched five new learning series, weekly virtual events and more.
“We quickly mobilized to add to our existing digital resources and workshops for those who depend on us,” said Dr. Katherine Bihr, Vice President of Programs and Education. “For teachers transitioning to full-time distance learning, it was important for us share our expertise, provide tools and cover simple ways for educators to continue engaging and teaching their students virtually.”
In addition to digital workshops and webinars for educators, Dr. Bihr and her team at the TGR Learning Lab also developed training videos and activities for parents juggling their careers and homeschooling.
More than 20 Design Challenges with instructions available in English and Spanish engage families in learning with household items, and a STEM Unplugged learning series allows students to disconnect from technology to complete projects such as building a mind jar, exploring the outdoors and creating rock candy crystals. These are just a few examples of the new assets developed by TGR Foundation during the pandemic.
“Because of the generosity from our new and loyal donors, our programs have continued working toward our mission to empower youth through education during the pandemic in innovative yet effective ways,” said Rick Singer , President and CEO. “Without their support the impact that we have made on students and educators worldwide wouldn’t be possible.”
With support from donors and partners, TGR Foundation will continue to support students, parents and educators through the end of the pandemic and beyond. The Teacher Appreciation Campaign will take place May 4-8 and there are many ways to get involved.
- Make a one-time donation.

“The joining of Teacher Appreciation Week and Giving Tuesday Now was a great alignment of one of our core programs, educator development, and need for ongoing financial contributions to continue our work,” said Abby Daniels, Foundation Relations Director. “Through this campaign, we hope to not only generate support but also celebrate educators, provide awareness of our free and helpful resources and continue to work toward our mission and vision. Everyone can be a part of the campaign in some way.”
Donations from the campaign will support education programs for students, parents and educators. For more information visit TGRFoundation.org.
