While school maybe out in just a few short weeks, our TGR Learning Lab is gearing up for another busy summer, filled with an array of activities for curious minds and eager learners. Are you ready to hear all we have in store? Let’s get into it.
The TGR Learning Lab is offering interactive virtual summer classes for students who will be in middle school and high school in the fall. Our Technology for Good: Artificial Intelligence to Help the World is one class to look out for. Participants will explore different apps online and learn the process of how A.I. is created.
For our selfie-lovers or those who simply enjoy snapping pictures with a phone, our Photography: Visual Storytelling class will give students a deeper dive into the world of photography and fundamentals from learning various angles to studying composition techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to create a themed digital photobook.
The TGR Learning Lab’s weekly virtual summer classes are 90 minutes long and held Monday through Thursday. Classes begin Monday, June 28 and end July 29. Registration for middle school and high school students will close on Friday, June 11.
For rising high school seniors interested in learning about college admissions and the financial aid process, College Bound Academy is a great option. It’s a one-week virtual academy explaining the essentials needed to get started on the college journey.
Participants will learn how to write a personal statement, find scholarship opportunities and much more. Virtual classes are 2.5 hours long and held Monday – Friday. Classes are from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT. Students may register for only one session and the deadline is June 18th.
Virtual STEM Studio is what educators who want to sharpen their practices and add to their student engagement toolbox have been looking for. During these workshops educators will learn more about inquiry- based learning and how it encourages students to engage in their learning by posing questions, analyzing scenarios and finding solutions. This student-centered approach differs from traditional teacher-centered learning where instructors present information. There are four workshops from June 22- July 15.
Last but certainly not least, our collection of STEM Design challenges, available in both English and Spanish, create fun, family moments while encouraging everyone to think critically and outside of the box. The best part is most of the items needed for the Design Challenges can be easily found at home.
One of our popular activities is the Tallest Tower Design Challenge. Newspaper and tape is all that’s needed. The goal is to build the tallest free-standing tower without taping it to the table and record how long it can stand.
