With support from the Second Round Foundation, the Earl Woods Scholar Program hosted its annual regional mentor orientation and summer social at the TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia.

During the event, the newest cohort of Philadelphia scholars were introduced to their assigned mentors and equipped with tools and best practices to navigate their relationships.

“Our annual mentor orientation and summer social is crucial to setting guidelines and ensuring success for our mentors and scholars,” said Cristina Fernández, TGR Foundation vice president of programs. “We are grateful to Second Round Foundation for their support and investment in our scholars and mentors.”

Each Earl Woods Scholar is partnered with a dedicated mentor, who serves as an advocate, career coach, personal advisor and role model throughout their college experience. The mentors provide their scholars with advice and resources while helping them develop skills to achieve their college and career goals.

In addition to connecting with their mentors, scholars were also able to connect with the broader community of scholars, alumni and friends of TGR Foundation.

Second Round Foundation is committed to creating equity for young people through education and community. Mentorship is a critical component of student success at every level.

“We are honored to support the Earl Woods Scholar Program’s Annual Regional Mentor Orientation and Summer Social at the TGR Learning Lab in Philadelphia,” said  Sandra M. Brunson, Second Round Foundation Co-Founder and CFO. “This event reflects our mission at the Second Round Foundation: meeting students where they are and ensuring they have the mentorship and encouragement to thrive in college and beyond.”

As the Earl Woods Scholar class of 2029 embarks on the next chapter of their educational journey, their mentors and the TGR Foundation community will be there to support them every step of the way.

The Earl Woods Scholar Program was created in 2006 to honor the vision and spirit of the late Earl Woods, Tiger’s father and mentor, while continuing his legacy of sharing and caring. Holding one of the highest graduation rates among scholarship programs in the country, the unique program is committed to ensuring every scholar is supported throughout their time in college and beyond. Once selected, scholars receive continued guidance throughout college with mentorship, personal and professional development workshops and internship placement assistance to ensure students earn their bachelor’s degrees and navigate successful professional careers.
