Donor Spotlight: Bob Winegard

Founder of Imagen Records Bob Winegard began his successful career as engineer in the tech sector before crossing over into the music industry. A longtime friend of the Tiger Woods Foundation since 2007, he has served as a donor and event sponsor throughout the years. His support for the foundation extends to our Earl Woods Scholars with Winegard sponsoring five of our D.C. scholars though their college journey. In an interview with TWF, Winegard opens up about the experiences that have shaped him.  

How did you get involved with the Tiger Woods Foundation?

I participated in a few events and eventually ended up visiting the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim and met the kids and their teachers. I really identified with opening the minds of these inner-city kids to a world of career options and possibilities. I do believe what holds most people back is the walls they create in themselves.  
 
What’s the best advice you’ve received and given?

My uncle told me, “In life you have to write your own ticket.”

Tell us about someone or something that inspired you greatly.

I work with the charity that takes our wounded soldiers out of the hospital and teaches them to play golf no matter what their disability. These guys are playing with one arm, one leg, no legs. Golf for them is mental and physical therapy. I am inspired by these guys every time we tee it up. 

Describe yourself in 10 words or less. 

I am a regular guy, but friend and mentor on occasions. 
 
There are several common traits our staff and scholars possess — traits we believe lead to success. Which trait do you identify with and why?

Unstoppable. I have seen this in the scholars that are going through the Earl Woods Scholarship Program, and they know they have this huge opportunity. Most are the first person in their family to go to college, and they are UNSTOPPABLE. 

How or why did you choose this profession?

I’m in my second career now, I owned a Department of Defense tech company, but now run a music label, Imagen Records. I am a musician that has played in bands all my life and wanted to give some artists a chance that a major label wouldn’t. 
 
What’s the greatest strength of your organization?

My staff is unstoppable as well, at my tech company and the record label, we are extremely goals/results oriented. We do whatever it takes, and as long as it takes to get the job done, period. I always try to hire people that take full responsibility without excuses. Work ethic is everything; you can’t teach it.
