TGR Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Yong Kim, M.D., Ph.D., to the Board of Governors. Kim, the former 12thPresident of the World Bank Group, is currently the Vice-Chairman and Partner at Global Infrastructure Partners, a fund that invests in infrastructure projects across several sectors around the world.

“Dr. Kim has spent his professional career dedicated to bettering the lives of those in need,” shared Tiger Woods, Founder, TGR Foundation. “We’re not only proud to have him join our Board of Governors, but we’re excited to have his expertise as we continue to build and expand our education programs globally.”

During Kim’s seven-year tenure at the World Bank Group, the organization established two goals to guide its work: to end extreme poverty by 2030; and to boost shared prosperity, focusing on the bottom 40 percent of the population in developing countries.

A physician and anthropologist, Kim’s career has revolved around health, education, and improving the lives of the poor. Before joining the World Bank Group, he served as the President of Dartmouth College and held professorships at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. From 2003 to 2005, Kim served as Director of the World Health Organization’s HIV/AIDS department. In 1987, Kim co-founded Partners in Health, a non-profit medical organization that now works in poor communities on four continents.

“I’m excited to be on the board of the foundation because if you look all over the world the need for more energy, more insight and more commitment to STEM education is among the things that we need more than anything else,” said Kim. “The world is changing very quickly and the more STEM young people can get exposed to, the better they’ll be able to compete in the economy of the future, which will require more and more STEM competence with every passing year.”

In a sit-down with TGR Foundation, Kim speaks on TGR Foundation’s commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and the critical need to provide access to quality education to youth around the world.

With Kim’s guidance on the board, TGR Foundation will continue to advance its mission to empower students to pursue their passions through education.
