For the third consecutive year, the TGR Learning Lab’s hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities will make their way to The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles during the Genesis Open. From Thursday, February 14 through Sunday, February 17, young golf fans can swing by the TGR Learning Lab powered by CDW & Samsung and test their STEM and golf skills.
Located in Family Village near the 14thhole at Riviera, the TGR Learning Lab powered by CDW & Samsung offers visitors a variety of interactive, family-friendly STEM challenges that are free for all guests. Here we highlight the many activities in-store.
Light it Up
Exploring the concepts of circuitry, participants will use a coin battery, LED bulb and a 3D printed flashlight mold to create their own mini flashlight as a souvenir.
Buoyancy Challenge
Sparking creativity and exploring the engineering design process, participants will be challenged to create a floating craft, using aluminum foil, that can support as many pennies as possible before sinking. Prizes will be awarded daily at 2 p.m. for participants whose crafts hold the most coins.
Mission to Mars
On a journey into space, students will discover what astronauts need for protection from harmful UV light. Using UV color changing beads, participants will test the effectiveness of different materials used for an astronaut’s suit and visor. The mission ends with a chance for participants to make a bracelet of UV beads to take with them. Â
Tower Challenge
The Tower Challenge will test engineering skills as visitors build a freestanding structure using wooden cubes, craft sticks and plastic cups. The tower must balance on only one wooden cube. A prize will be awarded for the tallest tower built each day at 2 p.m.
Student-Created Gaming Station
Gaming fans of all ages are welcome to test video games designed by students enrolled in the Video Game Design class at the TGR Learning Lab, in Anaheim, California.
Robotic Golf
Tiger Woods went viral on social media learning how to combine technology and golf on the putting green, and now youth and fans can too. Tiger used coding strategies to sink a spherical robot and through this activity TGR Foundation challenges youth to sink a putt using Sphero™, combining athleticism and STEM.
United Airlines Putting Course
Highlighting Los Angeles landmarks from the Santa Monica Pier to the iconic Hollywood sign, the Family Village will also host a 6-hole putting course designed for players of all ages and skill levels. Players ages 17 and under can submit their scorecard for a chance to win a raffle prize each day.
With a variety of activities on display at the TGR Learning Lab and Family Village, we hope you’ll join us and discover if your STEM game is on par.
