One year removed from securing his long-awaited first major victory, Jason Day returns to the PGA Championship at a different course, but looking to accomplish the same feat. The one key difference between 2015 and the present is that Day has finally achieved his goal of becoming the Official World Golf Ranking No. 1 player, a title that he has successfully held for 21 weeks.

At Whistling Straits last season, Day held off Jordan Spieth, shooting a final-round 67 and finishing a record-setting 20-under for a major. This mark was tied only two weeks ago by 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship winner Henrik Stenson as he captured The Open Championship.

In the 2015 FexExCup Playoffs, Day won both The Barclays and BMW Championship and finished tied for 12th at the Deutsche Bank Championship. With this hot streak during the playoffs, he captured the much-desired world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career. Day was in contention throughout his time at TPC Boston, shooting 68-68-73-69 for a total of 6-under for the event. Day will again look to this year’s Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day weekend and will hope to make the leap into first place in order to walk away with his first Wedgwood Trophy.

Day currently sits at second in the FedExCup standings and even held the top position for seven consecutive weeks before being dethroned by Dustin Johnson and his win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Day possesses the most victories on the PGA TOUR in 2016 with three. His first title of the season came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he held a wire-to-wire lead. Day continued this success into the following week, walking away with a win at the WGC-Dell Match Play after cruising through the tournament and beating Louis Oosthuizen in the finals. At THE PLAYERS Championship, Day secured his 10th career TOUR title with another wire-to-wire victory and moved into first place in the FedExCup rankings.

As the year’s final major tees off, the countdown to the FedExCup Playoffs and the 2016 Deutsche Bank Championship nears. The top 100 players in the playoff standings will head to TPC Boston over Labor Day weekend to battle for the Wedgwood Trophy.
