Kicking off the new year with a reunion of more than 80 scholars and a reminder of the importance and impact of our programs, the 9th annual Earl Woods Scholar Program Winter Workshop commenced at the TGR Learning Lab Jan. 3-5.
Before returning to universities across the nation and starting a new academic quarter or semester, scholars came together for personal and professional development. Benefitting from sessions on various topics including business etiquette, self-care, interview preparation and more, the students gained skills and best practices for navigating through college and life after graduation.
In celebration of the graduating cohort of scholars, a luncheon held on the second day of the event was the highlight for many scholars, mentors, partners and other guests in attendance. The luncheon takes place each year allowing 4th year scholars to celebrate with other students in the program, peers in their cohort and the TGR Foundation family.
“Today represents what we are as an organization and what we want to be,” said Rick Singer, President & CEO, as he transitioned the program to scholar speeches and a video montage of the honorees.
As the seniors reflected on their time in the program, shared gratitude and announced plans for their future, many were inspired and moved to tears.
“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Dr. Katherine Bihr, Vice President of Programs and Education. “Some of us remember interviewing these scholars who are now graduating. We are exceedingly proud.”
The Earl Woods Scholar Program offers a host of opportunities throughout the year to guide scholars on the path to college graduation and beyond. Founded in memory of the late Earl Woods, it has supported more than 200 scholars since its inception and holds a 98% graduation rate.
