As the College Bound Academy takes full swing, highly motivated students take part in focused college preparatory sessions … but that’s just the start. Get all the details here.

The annual College Bound Academy provides incoming high school seniors with a variety of resources — and a strong support network — as they prepare to dive into the world of the college process. In fact, due to the success and popularity of this program, an additional week-long session was necessary to meet demand for 2014. If you’re wondering why it’s such a hit, then you’ve come to the right place.

Why is the academy important?

The academy is important because it’s highly beneficial for college-bound students while carrying out the goals and purpose of the Tiger Woods Foundation. The academy provides tangible tools for the college process but, more importantly, it serves as a secure outlet of support for students and creates bonds amongst the participants that may begin at the TWLC, but will strengthen for years and years to come.

Where are the classes held? And when?

At the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim, California. In fact, following the preliminary weeks of the program, held from July 14-18 and Aug. 4-8 because of the high demand, the Learning Center will host bimonthly sessions to ensure continuous, hands-on assistance with applications paired with student evaluations. How awesome is that?

What’s covered?

In addition to a trip to Disneyland, to participate in Disney’s Approach to Leadership and Teamwork initiative, a cultural excursion to Occidental College and a trip to the Griffith Observatory, the following focuses are the topics covered within the walls of the Tiger Woods Learning Center when the academy is in session:

• SAT preparation
• Financial aid overview
• Tips on how to pick and apply for different schools
• Personal statements
• Common Application
• guidance on the FAFSA

Who’s here?

For 2014, 52 students are in attendance and are led by senior programs director of the Earl Woods Scholarship Program, Cristina Fernandez.
