Students from three Anaheim high schools who are interested in pursuing health care careers participated in a hands-on, interactive learning event led by nine Providence health care professionals at the TGR Learning Lab on Friday, November 17. The event featured a panel discussion with Providence doctors and other professionals and experiential working sessions where the students engaged in activities involving biotechnology.
TGR Foundation and DoD STEM are working together to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workforce by engaging students, educators and professionals in STEM activities and making real-world connections. Joined by Providence health care professionals, Southern California high school students gathered at the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, CA for an immersive experience to build skills while learning about health care career pathways.
The inaugural Community Health Career Academy, developed in partnership with TGR Foundation and Providence, guided students through three sessions with activities focused on the use of data in genetics, for melanoma in particular; using data to assess community needs such as high rates of drowning and head trauma; and ways to target audiences to address concerns and change behaviors.
TGR Foundation has announced the appointment of Hrag M. Hamalian as its new president, TGR Learning Labs and national programs. Hrag is a dynamic leader in education who will oversee TGR Foundation’s education programs and the team responsible for delivering programming to students from under-resourced communities nationwide.
I started my journey at Lafayette College intending to study economics and faced many challenges trying to decide what I wanted to pursue after college. My classes were packed with STEM courses, and I felt ill-prepared for the journey I was about to embark upon. TGR Foundation was extremely helpful in my struggles throughout the years. As an Earl Woods Scholar, I was paired with an amazing mentor, Tim Walsh, who opened up his networks and family to me and was very active throughout each year.
PHILADELPHIA – Members of the Cobbs Creek Foundation were joined by elected officials, educators, and supporters to celebrate the launch of the foundation’s revitalization of the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course, a project that will invest at least $100 million into restoring the course and transforming the property into a dynamic golf and education campus.
The groundbreaking marks the start of construction for the Cobbs Creek Campus. The initial phases of development will include building a reservoir and pumphouse, TGR Learning Lab and driving range building.
TGR Foundation has announced Meredith Foote as the executive director of its new TGR Learning Lab in Philadelphia. Foote, an experienced leader in education will oversee all programs, operations and funding opportunities at the TGR Learning Lab at Cobbs Creek which will empower students to discover and achieve their fullest potential.

In support of Mental Health Month, TGR Foundation and Providence partnered in support of students and families in Southern California through the Empowered Health Wellness Fair, where they unveiled the newest green bench of Providence’s Promise to Talk initiative.
During the free event, students and families had the opportunity to participate in various workshops, offered in English and Spanish. The sessions provided tips and tools to help participants navigate and prioritize their mental health.

Jin Choi Thatcher has served the Foundation for more than 20 years and was recently named chief operating officer. With humble beginnings in Orange County and a Korean American heritage, Thatcher has a passion for helping under-resourced communities. As a first-generation high school and college graduate who worked hard and maximized resources to fund her education, she is a proud alumna of Western High School and the University of California, Irvine.

TGR Foundation and TGR Design are partnering with the Cobbs Creek Foundation to enhance access to education and golf in Philadelphia through the new Cobbs Creek campus. The campus will support the community through innovative education programs and opportunities to empower youth to discover and achieve their fullest potential.

Genesis Gives, the corporate social responsibility initiative of Genesis Motor North America, and the Genesis Inspiration Foundation announced their commitment of $1 million to TGR Foundation to advance science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education for youth over the next five years at the TGR Learning Lab. Part of this partnership will include learning opportunities for students from TGR Foundation at the Genesis Design Studio. I was the first person from my high school to ever get accepted into and attend an Ivy League school. I was celebrated and praised after the news broke out, but deep down I felt sadness more than anything.
After a rigorous selection process, TGR Foundation and DOD STEM, recently announced its third cohort of DoD STEM Ambassadors with 22 STEM educators from across the country. Bringing decades of experience, the ambassadors will share and support the DoD’s educational outreach efforts through the Defense STEM Education Consortium (DSEC). TGR Foundation began managing the collaborative partnership between academia, industry, not-for-profit organizations and government in 2021 and will continue to lead the program for a second year. The DOD STEM Ambassador program aims to broaden STEM literacy and develop a diverse and agile workforce with the technical excellence to defend our nation.

2022 was a year of transition and renewal. Our goal was to relaunch TGR Foundation, with a focus on our people, programs, and spaces. As I reflect on this past year, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for having students back in the renovated TGR Learning Lab and for the community members who stepped forward in joining our mission and vision for the future.
