from the ceo

Since 1996, TGR Foundation has provided students from under-resourced communities with opportunities that help them understand their potential for a brighter future. During the 2023 – 2024 school year, we celebrated many major milestones and continued working to expand our reach and impact. We increased the number of students served year-round through new career-connected learning opportunities for teens, pre-launch programming for the TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia and the expansion of existing programs. Overall, it was an exciting year of growth, and we are thankful for the support of our board, partners, donors and staff.

Through a legacy

OF SHARING AND CARING

From a young age, my parents taught me two important values including the power of education and the ability to make a difference by sharing and caring. That is why my dad and I created TGR Foundation in 1996 and remain committed to our mission at TGR Foundation to empower students to pursue their passions through education.

These values hold true today and are the cornerstone of our work. We believe in the power of education and have seen it make a positive impact in our students lives. Through our education-based programs and TGR Learning Labs, we provide the access, support and resources they need to see their potential and chase after their dreams.

We can’t do it alone. Thanks to your support and contributions, we are expanding our reach to serve more students from under-resourced communities. Your support is helping us carry on my family’s legacy by making a positive impact on a student’s life, every single day.

Thank you for joining us to empower students through education.

  • At the TGR Learning Lab Anaheim, our members are empowered to discover their passions aligned with future career paths. Every member takes the Find Your Grind lifestyle assessment and completes engaging activities that help them develop their interests and engage in post-secondary planning.
  • In 2023-24 we piloted our new High School career connected learning program in partnership with Providence, the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) and North Orange County Regional Occupational Program. Students from three schools in the AUHSD healthcare career pathway participated in weekly instruction facilitated by TGR Learning Lab educators, attended a career explorer program at the TGR Learning Lab Anaheim and completed an industry challenge with Providence, using the Community Health Needs Assessment to provide solutions that will help caregivers address needs in the local community.

During the 2024 Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club, our TGR Learning Lab members and Earl Woods Scholars experienced the event in unique ways. From being starters on the tee, to experiencing a youth golf exhibition, the tournament provided access to the game and learning opportunities. Select students went behind the scenes gaining invaluable career-connected learning experiences, including job shadowing with Golf Channel’s Kira Dixon, a tour of the media center, an inside look at the broadcast compound and being an honorary member of the media on championship Sunday.

EVENTS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Empowering STUDENTS

THROUGH MISSION-DRIVEN GROWTH

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, public school students who live at or below the poverty line are significantly less likely to achieve proficiency in core subjects such as math and science. The majority do not have access to modern technology and the classes they take increasingly become less hands-on as they progress through middle and high school. That is why we are enhancing the student experience, expanding our program offerings and opening new TGR Learning Labs that will positively impact the lives of more students from grade school through graduation.

We will also offer programming connected to additional high-growth industries to empower more students to pursue their passions. Additionally, teen career readiness programming will extend to Philadelphia alongside the opening of the new TGR Learning Lab.

LIKE EMMANUEL

to pursue their passions through education

Temiloluwa “Emmanuel” Oluwasesin found a second home and a community through the TGR Learning Lab Anaheim after immigrating to America from Nigeria at age 11. As he navigated a new life and explored possibilities, the Learning Lab was a safe place for him to gain confidence in his identity, build skills and pursue his passion for computers.

“Since I came to the United States, I wasn’t exactly sure where I fit in the entire spectrum,” he said. “I felt like the parts that I brought from Nigeria were flaws within me that I needed to change.”

Through afterschool classes at the Learning Lab, Emmanuel learned how to code and discovered a path to a career in engineering. In addition to coding skills, he developed relationships with educators who would later become mentors.

He is currently a freshman at the University of California, Santa Barbara studying computer science with ongoing support as a member of the Earl Woods Scholar Program.
