When I first experienced the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, California, last August, the enormity of the goal before the Discovery Education team became clear. Tiger Woods’ vision of digitizing the TGR Learning Lab, then making those resources available to students across the country through a nationwide initiative, was ambitious, to say the least.
However, during my visit to the foundation’s headquarters, which was planned as both a team brainstorming session and an opportunity to experience the innovative TGR Learning Lab in action, it became clear to my teammates and me that in collaboration with the Tiger Woods Foundation staff, achieving our joint goal was attainable. Both Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, and the Tiger Woods Foundation, which champions breakthrough transformations that equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to exceed any and all expectations, share similar cultures and are dedicated to supporting the success of all learners.
With a shared mission and outlook on student potential, together our organizations set off on a journey to evolve the existing Tiger Woods Foundation college access and STEM curriculum into digital, standards-based interactive experiences that could be shared with Discovery Education’s vast educator community and integrated into classroom teaching and learning. What developed over the course of many months was a true collaboration culminating in the January 2017 launch of TGR EDU: Explore.
Discovery Education is honored to be part of the foundation’s expansion. Right out of the gate, we have heard from educators that there is a tremendous appetite for supplemental resources like these that encourage students to reach their fullest potential. To meet that need, each semester we will roll out new content that will help educators create the modern digital learning experiences we know engage today’s students.
A live webinar, jointly hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation and Discovery Education, will take place Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 4 p.m. PST to fully introduce the partnership, the new digital platform and what to expect in the years to come. You can register now at https://tgredu.eventbrite.com/.
There’s so much more to come, and we look forward to celebrating a new phase of breakthrough student transformations together at TGR EDU: Explore!
Champions of the unexpected.
