TGR Foundation recently welcomed a new cohort of four Orange County, California, seniors from the high school class of 2027 to its Earl Woods Scholar Program.

The scholars were selected from a competitive pool of applicants nominated by their teachers and school counselors based on demonstrated leadership, community service, academic achievement and financial need.

The cohort includes:

  • Santiago: Buena Park High School
  • Valerie: Western High School
  • Daniel: Oxford Academy
  • Maite: Anaheim High School

As the scholars enter their senior year of high school, the Foundation will support them through higher education processes, including college selection, admissions, financial aid and more. The selected scholars will enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a U.S.-accredited, not-for-profit, private or public university immediately upon high school graduation.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these students to our Earl Woods Scholar family,” said Cristina Fernández, vice president of programs, TGR Foundation. “Through their applications and interviews, this cohort demonstrated not only impressive potential but also a strong commitment to supporting one another. We look forward to supporting their growth and helping them navigate the path to their college and career goals.”

The Earl Woods Scholar Program has a 98% college graduation rate, one of the highest among scholarship programs in the country. The $5,000 renewable scholarship supports students throughout their four years in college and beyond.

When selected, students receive individualized counseling, exposure to resources and preparation for college life, including guidance on topics ranging from campus safety to financial planning. After high school graduation, students participate in a pre-college retreat and later attend an annual Winter Workshop featuring the full network of scholars of all higher education levels.

TheEarl Woods Scholar Programwas created in 2006 to honor the vision and spirit of the late Earl Woods, Tiger’s father and continue the Woods family legacy of sharing and caring.A core component of the Program is mentorship; upon entering college each scholar is paired with an professional mentor who provides guidance and support throughout their journey.

The Orange County cohort is one of seven regions supported by the program, alongside Atlanta, Augusta, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia region.
