Fatima’s journey is a reflection of what happens when curiosity meets opportunity. Hands-on projects and STEM experiments pulled Fatima into a world of discovery at the TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia. Like many students, she was curious but unsure of where her journey might lead. What she found was more than an after-school program; it was a community that encouraged her to explore, ask questions and imagine new possibilities for her future.
Through hands-on learning, mentorship and a welcoming environment, Fatima quickly discovered a space that nurtured her curiosity and confidence. At the Learning Lab, she explored subjects that sparked her interests and challenged her to think differently. Each class offered something new to uncover, from robotics and design to connections between science and everyday life. The interactive STEM programs opened her eyes to how the human brain works, ultimately inspiring her to pursue a career in neuroscience.
With every experiment, discussion and project, she gained the skills and support to envision a future where she could make a lasting impact.
“The Lab gave me confidence,” she said. “It showed me that I can do this, that I belong in these spaces.”
The Learning Lab became more than a place to learn after school and on the weekends; it became a place to dream, to grow and to build a future grounded in purpose.
In addition to after-school STEAM classes, she has also experienced career-connected learning through an executive internship where she was able to exercise leadership skills working alongside the Learning Lab’s executive director, Meredith Foote.
She was also one of five fellow Learning Lab members selected to participate in the 2025 Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
“My NASA Camp experience was absolutely amazing,” she said. “I learned about medicine in space, how the body is affected in space and how medicine is different in space than it is on earth. I’m thankful to the TGR Learning Lab and the Paul George Foundation for that amazing opportunity.”
Fatima’s story embodies TGR Foundation’s commitment to empowering students to pursue their passions through education, helping them build the foundation to succeed in school, careers and life beyond the classroom.
