We have some exciting news to share! TGR EDU: Explore, our digital site launched in partnership with Discovery Education in 2017, came away a winner at The Social Good Awards presented by Cynopsis Media.
TGR EDU: Explore Launches To Our Solar System and Back

Thanks to the release of a new digital module, To Our Solar System and Back, on TGR EDU: Explore, the study of space and careers focused in this area has come closer to earth. To Our Solar System and Back was inspired by the TGR Learning Lab’s Aerospace Rocketry class, challenging students to physically design a rocket that could be launched, safely recovered and used again. This digital module expands on this design thinking by allowing exploration of everyday items we depend on, but which were originally developed for the space program, such as solar panels and cell phones.

In just a few short days, TGR Foundation heads to Las Vegas to host its milestone 20th Tiger Jam, an exclusive two-day charity event at the MGM Grand. Scholar Voices: My Journey from Scholar to Civil Engineer

For a long time, back to my high school days, I remember wanting to become a civil engineer at my dad’s advice. I’ve had my eye on this particular goal in large part because I had a strong desire to help communities by designing and implementing safe civil infrastructure. As an Earl Woods Scholar and with the support of my family, I set my dreams in motion when I was accepted as an engineering student at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Designing Innovation for Equity: What’s Taking So Long?
Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion at the ASU+GSV Summit, representing TGR Foundation and the work we do. Speaking to a packed room, our session, Designing Innovation for Equity, set out to broadly explore equity issues in relationship to the Innovation Economy-focused redesign of education systems. Sounds impressive, right?
TGR EDU: Create and OSSE Announce the iSTEM Development Program

In some schools, a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) can look like buying a few 3D-printers or turning a small area into a “maker space.” For twenty-seven administrators, teacher-leaders, curriculum coaches and teachers, from five Washington, D.C. public and charter schools, their commitment goes a lot deeper.
TGR EDU: Explore Launches Redesigned Curriculum Page

With the recent launch of four new lesson plans, in addition to a professional development training video and an archived webinar focusing on project-based learning and 21st century skills, TGR EDU: Explore is rapidly expanding its library of transformative content for teachers, students and families in the areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and college-access. A project that has been in the works – and which is now live on the site – was to update the curriculum page to house this additional content, while also considering resources that will be launching later this year and beyond.
What’s Lurking in Your Fast Food?

Working alongside the wonderful team at Discovery Education, we developed another exciting STEM lesson and brought it to life! With the bright lights and cameras on me, I starred in my first digital lesson for TGR EDU: Explore. After a long day of filming and playing actress for the day, the end result is an engaging training video based on the lesson plan, What’s Lurking in Your Fast Food?, that offers educators a step-by-step guide to setting up this hands-on lesson in their own classroom.
