Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: How to put values into action

This summer I had the chance to examine the role of TGR Foundation from a global perspective. It started with a speaking role at Global MindED’s annual convening in Denver, CO where we discussed how organizations reach a diverse population with their work. The latter half of the summer took me to Israel where I examined the complexity of creating a STEM-integrated workforce by better preparing educators to meet the changing world facing their students. And most recently TGR EDU: Global trained more than 50 educators from around the world to transform their teaching through a focus on inquiry and problem-based pedagogy.
TGR Learning Labs empower students across the country

Since launching the flagship TGR Learning Lab in 2006, TGR Foundation has built a robust network of opportunities for students to learn and grow. Programs at the flagship facility in Anaheim, CA have expanded over the last two decades providing more students access to quality education and career connections.
Collaboration and partnerships are a key component of their success. With six satellite campuses across the United States, students in underrepresented communities from coast to coast benefit from high-quality education programs. Although each satellite’s programs are unique to the communities, resources and students served, the core model and curricula were tested and proven successful at the flagship learning lab.
Carol Kimmelman Memorial Scholarship awarded to TGR Foundation students

Last summer, TGR Foundation welcomed its newest cohort of College Bound Academy students to the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim. Beyond the two weeks of immersive college prep courses offered by TGR staff, the students had a chance to engage with special guests and friends of the foundation. One such guest was Dr. Jennifer Winward, an instructor at the University of California, San Diego and creator of the online platform, Winward Academy.Through the generosity of Dr. Winward along with the Kimmelman Family Foundation, 100 students including those enrolled in TGR Foundation’s College Bound Academy (CBA) received access to Winward Academy’s award-winning curriculum geared towards ACT and SAT preparation.
College Bound Academy prepares students for journey to higher education

While many incoming high school seniors in Southern California started their summer on vacation or sitting by the pool taking a break from their studies, participants in our annual College Bound Academy spent two weeks preparing for their path to college.
Including admissions and financial aid workshops, campus visits to the Claremont Colleges, guest speakers and training from Disneyland Marketing professionals, the program was packed with opportunities for participating students to gain inspiration, build skills, connect with peers and start their journey to higher education.
Angela Segura and Cyan Erdita connected with us to share on their experience.
TGR Learning Lab Student Spotlight: My path toward a career in STEM

My earliest memories of the TGR Learning Lab began when I was walking down Gilbert Street from Gauer Elementary School to take part in the week-long, 5th grade field trip. A few years later, I was back for more, enrolling in multiple classes in the after-school program.
Being a first-generation college student comes with high amounts of pressure. I was terrified and nervous about how I was going to figure everything out. Self-doubt often clouded my mind. However, with the support of the TGR Learning Lab, as both a student and a staff member, I was able to find my footing. The TGR Learning Lab equipped me with valuable tools as I transitioned from high school to college.

TGR EDU: Explore launches new digital module covering animal ancestry

When asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, a common response from young students interested in animals is “a veterinarian.” Although becoming a veterinarian is a noble and valued profession, one that certainly appeals to a wide range of people, both young and old, more often than not students are simply unaware of the vast opportunities available to them in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields that align directly with their passions. Opportunities that can advance human understanding of complex issues, provide life-saving research or solve difficult problems.
TGR Learning Lab Student Spotlight: From College Bound Academy to College

Last summer, I took the first steps of my college journey by signing up for College Bound Academy (CBA) at the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, CA. Coming from the Phillipines, I grew up with no prior knowledge of the U.S. education system. As the oldest among my siblings, I often had to turn to my friends for guidance. I followed their actions in hopes that what I was doing was right, but I realized that I shouldn’t be dependent on them. From then on, I took charge of my life and made myself responsible for my future.
