Since 1996, TGR Foundation has touched the lives of more than 3 million young people. Supported by TGR Live events and a loyal community of donors, partners and volunteers, we are proud of the many incredible moments and milestones we have accomplished together as we continue to make a positive impact in the lives of students.
On November 18, 1996, The Woods family motto of “share and care” inspired the creation of TGR Foundation, founded by Tiger Woods and his parents, Earl & Tida.
1996
The foundation launched junior golf initiatives including clinics and grants to support youth focused organizations.
1997
The inaugural Tiger Jam was held in Los Angeles to raise funds for TGR Foundation to support youth-serving nonprofit organizations.
After a four year break, the Eagles reunited to support the foundation among other headliners including Babyface and Hootie and the Blowfish. Tiger Jam is now one of five fundraising events managed by TGR Live and has raised more than $22M to support the foundation.
Founded by Tiger and Earl Woods, the inaugural World Challenge PGA TOUR tournament, the annual fundraising event for TGR Foundation.
The second playing of the event was held at Sherwood Country Club later that year and stayed there for 13 consecutive years.
The foundation established its official National Junior Golf Team, providing junior golfers from underserved communities with access and resources to compete in junior golf tournaments and earn scholarships for college.
Tigers’ dad, Earl, published a book challenging youth to Start Something.
The foundation partnered with Target to develop a program modeled after the book, which served more than six million children.
Tiger changed the focus of the foundation to education after the tragic events of 9/11, with a goal to build a safe space for youth to learn and thrive.
2001
The foundation celebrated the ground-breaking of its 35,000-square-foot TGR Learning Lab campus in Anaheim, CA.
The inaugural Deutsche Bank Championship PGA TOUR event was held outside of Boston, MA with proceeds supporting the development the TGR Learning Lab and its education programs.
The Block Party charity event was held in Orange County to celebrate the community and raise funds for the foundation’s first TGR Learning Lab campus.
The event raised millions as guests enjoyed an evening of activities including golf, A-list musical acts, food by celebrity chefs and a dynamic auction.
The flagship TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, CA opened its doors to serve middle and high school students through innovative, hands-on STEM education programs.
The Earl Woods Scholar Program was developed in memory of Tiger’s father to empower students on their path to college through mentorship, workshops and holistic support.
The National PGA TOUR event was launched in the Washington, D.C. region, an event which celebrated the United States Armed Forces and benefited the foundation’s programs.
The funds raised from the event was a catalyst for the foundation’s growth and expand its programs to Washington, D.C. and other major East Coast cities.
The foundation launched College Bound Academy, a week-long immersive workshop for high school students, to prepare them for higher education.
The TGR Learning Lab launched a junior golf player development program to expose underserved youth to the game of golf while highlighting the science behind the sport and careers in the industry.
The TGR Learning Lab expanded to Washington, D.C. with programs offered at two satellite locations.
The Tiger Woods Invitational presented by USLI was launched on the Monterey Peninsula celebrating the Earl Woods Scholars and raising funds for the foundation’s programs.
The inaugural class of Earl Woods Scholars graduated from college.
The TGR Learning Lab reached a milestone of serving more than 100,000 students since its launch and expanded to satellite sites in Pennsylvania and Florida.
Charity Navigator recognized TGR Foundation with its first four-star rating, the highest rank among nonprofits evaluated.
The foundation has received the recognition each year since.
Tiger’s Poker Night presented by World Poker Tour was launched as part of the Tiger Jam weekend, combining Tiger, poker legends, celebrities, athletes and more for a night of fundraising.
TGR Live took over management of the Deutsche Bank Championship with all proceeds benefiting the foundation.
The Earl Woods Scholar Program partnered with the Boston Red Sox Foundation to announce the first cohort of Scholars from the Boston, MA area.
Hero World Challenge was held at Albany, Bahamas for the first time, marking the first international event for TGR Live.
The foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary with a commemorative gala at the New York Public Library.
To fulfill Tiger’s vision to reach millions worldwide, the foundation launched a five-year strategic plan to expand its education programs to students and educators.
TGR Live began managing the PGA TOUR event held annually at Riviera with Genesis as new title sponsor and TGR Foundation as charitable beneficiary. The inaugural Genesis Open was held February 16-19, 2017.
Discovery Education partnered with the foundation to build TGR EDU: Explore, a digital platform for students, families and educators to help youth explore STEM and prepare for college.
The foundation launched a professional development program to empower educators to incorporate best practices to prepare students for success through interdisciplinary learning.
The professional development program hosted its first cohort of international educators for a one-week immersive workshop in Anaheim, CA expanding the foundation’s impact globally.
TGR EDU: Explore was recognized for its Use of Talent & Tech to Promote Social Good at the Social Good Awards presented by Cynopsis Media.
The foundation partnered with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in Washington, D.C. to launch the iSTEM Development Program for local educators.
Tiger reintroduced his self-titled charity as TGR Foundation to expand recognition to the collective community of individuals and organizations that contributed its global impact since it launched.
The Earl Woods Scholar Program expanded to Los Angeles, CA with cohorts in Orange County, Boston, New York and Washington, D.C.
TGR EDU: Explore celebrated one million students reached through the platform since it’s inception in 2017.
TGR Live launched NEXUS Cup in partnership with NEXUS Luxury Collection, a one-of-its-kind charity golf event that was the first annual event held in New York.
The foundation announced plans to expand programs to a second TGR Learning Lab campus in partnership with the Kimmelman Foundation among others.
The foundation expanded education programs and events to a virtual format in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Genesis Invitational was held at Riviera February 10-16, marking the elevation of the tournament from an Open to Invitational. With Tiger as host of the tournament, the change in status put The Genesis Invitational alongside Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament and the Arnold Palmer Invitational honoring the legends in the game.
TGR EDU: Explore, our online learning platform, launched its inaugural e-learning series for educators and unveiled a new design.
TGR Live hosted its first virtual charity event, TGR EXP: Jam with Purpose; proceeds supported the foundation’s education programs.
The foundation celebrated 25 years of empowering youth through education and 2 million students reached through in-person and digital programs
The Pathways Forward fundraising initiative was launched including partnerships with Find Your Grind, Experian, Genesis Bank and Bitwise to expand and enhance programs and resources for students, educators and families.
The relauch of the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim commenced in September, reopening to students, educators and the community following an extensive renovation.
The remodeled TGR Learning Lab featured enhancements to inspire students through modern, collaborative workspaces and new programming focused on in demand careers.
TGR Foundation and Providence announce their new partnership and the launch of Empowered Health, a collaboration focused on providing health education, health equity and workforce development.
TGR Foundation announced it will be expand the TGR Learning Lab to Philadelphia, PA in 2025 as part of the Cobbs Creek campus which will provide the community with access to golf and education.
The location for the new TGR Learning Lab in Los Angeles, CA at Lulu’s Place was announced for Westchester, near LAX. The Learning Lab and Lulu’s Place will provide access and opportunities to academics and athletes for local students and families.
TGR Foundation launches its new Career-connected Learning Program in partnership with Providence and the Anaheim Union High School District, providing students exposure to enhance their education and prepare for careers through the Career Explorer program and the Community Health Academy.
The TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia began local programming in West Philadelphia, serving 1st – 12th grade
students through STEAM educational enrichment and career and college readiness programs.
