High School Summer Academy student

Summer is just around the corner. Here at the TGR Learning Lab, we are gearing up for a busy summer filled with a variety of classes for students. In addition to the usual favorites, instructors have been enthusiastically developing new activities for our members to enjoy. There is something for everyone this summer!

TGR Learning Lab students work in lab

Students entering grades 5 – 6 in fall 2018 can now register for week-long classes from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. They can explore a variety of classes including, but not limited to: Coding with Sphero, Paleo Tech: Ancient Engineering, Fast and Furious: K’NEX Rollercoasters, Intro to Robotics, Mad About Chem and Alternative Energy.

Students can preview the future by learning how to code a robotic ball to move throughout a maze in Coding with Sphero, or for students who are interested in studying the past, they can examine ancient technology by re-creating their own engineering tools in Paleo Tech.

Aspiring engineers can design and build model rollercoasters in Fast and Furious or assemble and program a variety of robots to compete in different challenges in Intro to Robotics. Furthermore, young scientists can grow crystals and make ice cream in Mad About Chem, or experiment with wind generators, solar ovens and even solar cars in Alternative Energy.

Students entering grades 7-12 in fall 2018 can register for week-long classes from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. They have an abundance of new classes to choose from including: Marine Biology, Drawing with Adobe Illustrator, Human Body Lab: Biomedical Careers, City Planning and Wildlife Biology, to name a few.

Family Night Hour of Code

Students will identify ocean animals and create a device that will promote marine conservation in Marine Biology. For students who are more interested in land dwelling creatures, learn how to decode animal behavior and create islands of habitat in Wildlife Biology. Computer lovers can create their very own greeting card and cube craft character in Drawing with Adobe Illustrator, or design and develop their own side-scrolling video game in Side-Scrolling Game Design.

Additionally, students can take on the role of a city planner to create a model of a city using recycled materials in City Planning, or take on the role of a health care professional to use their knowledge of anatomy and epidemiology for positive health outcomes within themselves and others in Human Body Lab.

As always, students can enroll in golf classes focused on all aspects of the game from Secrets of the Short Game to Distance Control and Accuracy.
