TGR Foundation joins the global movement of generosity on Giving Tuesday and kicks off its year-end giving campaign to “empower more students” through its TGR Learning Labs and national education programs. Founded in 1996 by Tiger Woods, TGR Foundation’s signature programs serve youth from under-resourced communities, providing access to education and opportunities to prepare for their futures. “When I was a kid, my parents instilled a core principle in my life – try to make an impact in one person’s life, every day,” said Tiger. “At TGR Foundation, we are doing just that, making a meaningful impact on the lives of youth one day at a time.”
TGR Foundation has supported more than 200,000 students and recently celebrated its 28-year anniversary. Among the students impacted by TGR Foundation are Evelyn Alonso and Sammy Mohammed.
Supporting students from under-resourced communities
Evelyn, Sammy and many students across Southern California have been introduced to the TGR Learning Lab through its dynamic school day program for 5th graders; over the course of a four-day field trip, students learn about marine science and forensic science lessons that give them access to after-school programs throughout grade school.
Sammy continued attending the TGR Learning Lab throughout middle and high school, enjoying access to technology and after-school classes which sparked his passion for computer science. Sammy was later accepted into the Earl Woods Scholar Program and gained mentorship from Tiger.
“The TGR Learning Lab and Earl Woods Scholar Program really shaped the trajectory of my life,” said Sammy. “The Learning Lab helped facilitate my passion for computer science by giving me access and having a support system as a first-generation college student is really invaluable. Everyone at the foundation has been a champion for me.”
Since graduating from Stanford University, Sammy has begun his engineering career at Google.
Evelyn also participated in a variety of Learning Lab courses after school that helped her explore her interests and career possibilities, make new friends and build confidence in her capabilities. She continued to focus on her studies and was later accepted into the Earl Woods Scholar Program where she gained support navigating her journey to higher education. Evelyn graduated as valedictorian of her high school and is currently a sophomore at Yale University.
“Without TGR Foundation, I never would have thought I could get into Yale,” she said. “I’m thankful to the Earl Woods Scholar Program for giving me the opportunity to pursue my own interests and being able to have the confidence and also the tools needed to be able to apply to an Ivy League school.”
Building on Tiger’s vison for youth
The TGR Learning Lab was Inspired by Tigers’ vision to create a “safe space for youth to learn, grow and chase after their dreams. Through hands-on learning experiences, enrichment and support in a safe and inspiring environment, students are empowered with knowledge, skills and confidence needed to unleash their potential.
School day programming introduces elementary students to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) with integrated career connections. Middle and high school students participate in after-school programs that enhance their education while exposing them to related post-secondary pathways. Career and college readiness programs prepare high school and college students for higher education and the workforce.
Expanding impact to new communities
TGR Foundation is expanding its impact to serve more students and communities in need through the opening of the new TGR Learning Labs in Philadelphia, PA in 2025 followed by Los Angeles, CA in 2026.
In early 2025, TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia will open on the Cobbs Creek campus. The state-of-the-art facility will provide access to education, opportunities and experiences for students in West Philadelphia to prepare for a brighter future. The Foundation is already operating pre-launch programs focused on tutoring, STEAM education, college access and career readiness. Cobbs Creek is revitalizing its historic golf course and developing a new TGR Design short course, driving range and putting area, allowing students and the community to access the sport, learn valuable skills and be exposed to career opportunities.
Opening doors of opportunity for Los Angeles youth at the new Lulu’s Place campus, TGR Foundation’s third TGR Learning Lab will open in 2026. In partnership with the Kimmelman Family Foundation and United States Tennis Association, Lulu’s Place will be a transformational youth center for students and families in the community, providing academic, wellness and athletic programs. Through the new, innovative TGR Learning Lab Los Angeles, students and families will receive access to high-quality learning environments and programs focused on education, college access and career readiness in addition to a dedicated health and wellness space provided by Providence.
Funds raised through the campaign will help TGR Foundation continue providing critical education programs for students from under-resourced communities.
Inspired by Tiger’s legacy on and off the golf course, TGR Foundation is working to empower more students to pursue their passions through education. Click here to learn more about ways to get involved or donate online today.
