The PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge is a friendly, charity-focused contest in which tournament volunteers compete to collect the largest number of votes from supporters.
When online voting concluded during tournament week, the volunteer with the most votes had the opportunity to present a $10,000 check to the Tiger Woods Foundation on behalf of Astellas Pharma US, Inc. At the Deutsche Bank Championship, longtime tournament volunteer Kim Dearborn from Taunton, Massachusetts, was named the winner.
This is Dearborn’s fifth year volunteering at the tournament. She served as a mobile marshal and had the chance to present the check to the Tiger Woods Foundation during a special ceremony at the Deutsche Bank Championship on Championship Sunday on Sept. 4.
Dearborn was incredibly excited to win the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge and appreciated the opportunity to help make a difference for people served through tournament charities.
The PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge, sponsored by Myrbetriq® is a fun, friendly vote-for-me competition taking place at 16 tournaments during the 2016 PGA TOUR season. The initiative is designed to raise funds for charity while recognizing the talent, passion and commitment of the PGA TOUR’s more than 100,000 volunteers nationwide who have helped the TOUR achieve more than $2.14 billion in charitable giving to date.
“Astellas is proud to partner with the PGA TOUR as both organizations share a deep commitment to the power of volunteerism,” said Walt Johnston, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing, Urology and Hospital, Astellas Pharma US, Inc. “We are honored to be part of the PGA TOUR’s philanthropic legacy by donating close to $1 million to tournament charities over the course of the sponsorship and collaborating on this unique opportunity to give back to the communities where we work and live.”
Astellas first became a PGA TOUR sponsor in early 2013 and continues to focus on sponsoring programs that inspire, educate and foster community support of charitable organizations in local communities. For more information on the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge, please visit PGATOUR.com/volunteers.
