Scholar Voices: A Journey Through Internships Navigating My Engineering Path

When I first arrived at Berkeley, I was eager to explore the opportunities that came with being in such a new environment. As a first-generation Mexican-American, the world of engineering was completely new to me.
Internships became my way of discovering these different industries, each with its own culture, work-life balance and challenges.
TGR Foundation expands career and college readiness programs, prepare students for success

At TGR Foundation, we understand that limited access to resources and information about higher education processes means limited opportunities for students from low-income communities. From monthly workshops and multi-day academies to ongoing support for our Earl Woods Scholars, we meet students where they are and provide the resources and support needed to help them reach their dreams. Â
This summer, as we expanded our career and college readiness programs to Philadelphia, students experienced two of our cornerstone opportunities, College Bound Academy and Pre-College Retreat. Through our career and college readiness programs we implement a holistic approach to workshops and programs that focuses on challenges that students face, especially aspiring first generation college graduates.Â

How diversity enhances power of education, builds pipeline for women in STEM

Gender disparities in STEM fields have long been a concern in the education and workforce sectors. Despite progress made in recent years, there is still a significant underrepresentation of women in these fields. Women make up 34% of the STEM workforce and less than 25% of STEM majors in colleges and universities, according to the American Association of University Women. At TGR Foundation, we are committed to building a world where opportunity is universal and potential is limitless. Â
Â
One of the ways that we are addressing gender disparity in STEM is through programs at our TGR Learning Labs centered around STEAM education, which integrates the arts into science, technology, engineering and math subjects.
