Teacher Appreciation Week offers a great opportunity to look for ways to celebrate these pivotal agents of change year-round. From my initial role as a high school biology teacher in South Los Angeles, to founding and scaling a charter school network serving thousands of underestimated students in Los Angeles, to my current role at TGR Foundation driving innovative learning spaces and STEAM education programming nationally at TGR Learning Labs I have witnessed firsthand the profound influence that empowered educators wield in molding tomorrow’s leaders.

Expressing gratitude and appreciation for educators acknowledges their hard work, dedication and positive impact on students’ lives. Annual Winter Workshop unites partners, alumni to empower scholars for college success

First-generation college students returning to class often find themselves overwhelmed with limited support. TGR Foundation eases the burdens of Earl Woods Scholars kicking off the year with its annual Winter Workshop.  

Held January 3-5 at the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, the 2024 Winter Workshop united more than 60 students of all levels from colleges and universities across the country. Most scholars are the first in their families to pursue higher education and benefit from personalized support to navigate their unique challenges. Throughout the event, they had opportunities to connect with peers, prepare for their remaining college years and build skills to maximize their experience and overcome obstacles on their path to graduation. The Foundation collaborates with partners who are committed to its mission of empowering students to pursue their passions through education.  

TGR Foundation welcomes two distinguished leaders as new board members

As I reflect on my first six months as TGR Foundation’s CEO, I am energized by the incredible impact the organizationmade in 2023 and excited about our plans for 2024 and beyond. I’m especially thankful for our board of governors,executive leadership, team members and community of donors and partners whose dedication to empowering students to pursue their passions through education makes the important work we do possible. 

Anaheim high school students experience interactive health careers field trip

Students from three Anaheim high schools who are interested in pursuing health care careers participated  in a hands-on, interactive learning event led by nine Providence health care professionals at the TGR Learning Lab on Friday, November 17. The event featured a panel discussion with Providence doctors and other professionals and experiential working sessions where the students engaged in activities involving biotechnology.

TGR Foundation and DoD STEM Partner to Invest in Educators, Prepare Youth for STEM Workforce

TGR Foundation and DoD STEM are working together to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workforce by engaging students, educators and professionals in STEM activities and making real-world connections. The partnership has made a significant impact through strategic programming that exposes students to STEM careers and helps them develop skills to work toward their careers.
