From Survivor Ball to Gosling’s Rum’s impossible task, take a peek at how participants of the DBC’s annual Founders Cup survived the challenging TPC Boston to avoid going home empty-handed.

The Founders Cup, an annual event hosted by the Deutsche Bank Championship, welcomes representatives from our title sponsor, Deutsche Bank, local presenting partner, EMC, our four Founding Partners and other sponsors of the DBC, for a day of golf and camaraderie. The Founders Cup aims to show appreciation to our partners while generating more excitement for the DBC.

Here’s how participants “survived” the challenge of TPC Boston.

1. Survivor Ball: A new installment of the Founders Cup, Survivor Ball is simply this: Each foursome gets a yellow ball, and a new golfer has to tee up that specific ball at each hole. If the ball is hit into the woods or in the water and is not retrieved, that foursome is disqualified for the “Survivor Ball Sweepstakes.” In other words, they lose their chance to win two gift cards to both Post 390 and Grill 23 & Bar, two noted Boston area restaurants. You might ask yourself, ‘What would you do to win those gift cards?’ Well, some foursomes elected to putt their survivor ball off the tee, sacrificing strokes for (the eventual one-in-10 chance of) steaks. The lucky winners? Gosling’s Rum president & CEO Malcolm Gosling and his team.

2. Mulligans: Need a few extra swings? The participants were allowed to purchase mulligans prior to their 18-hole shotgun start. The mulligans went for $25 or five for $100. With that front-pin placement on No. 16, mulligans were needed as more than a few golf balls found their way into the depths of 16’s pond.

3. Get a Hole-in-One on 16: Easy, right? Just get a hole-in-one on one of the hardest holes at TPC Boston, with the wind against you on the tee box and the water troubling your thoughts. If you do it, you’re on your way to … Bermuda! That’s right, Gosling’s Rum offered a prepaid trip to Bermuda for any golfer who aced the 16th hole during the Founders Cup. As you could maybe guess by the difficulty of the hole, there were no winners.

4. Food, drinks and awards: For those that had a tough round on a tough course, nothing could help them survive the downtrodden feelings more than the food and drink provided in the clubhouse. Lined with prime rib, salmon, shrimp, appetizers and salad, along with a variety of draft beer and Gosling’s Rum Dark ‘N Stormy’s, the golfers surely enjoyed their time in the clubhouse, especially since a few lucky golfers took home Nike Golf equipment and Founders Cup trophies.

5. Summer in New England: This doesn’t have much to do with surviving Founders Cup, but nothing makes for a better day of golf — or a better way to thank loyal and supportive sponsors — than a perfect New England summer day.
