My name is Quyen and I am an Earl Woods Scholar. I was lucky to have a chance to do a Q&A with Rick Singer, the President & CEO of Tiger Woods Foundation, reflecting on his first year at the Foundation. As an intern, it was truly informative and eye-opening to learn more about this great organization. As a scholar, it helped me thoroughly understand the opportunities we are receiving from the Earl Woods Scholarship Program.

Quyen: Coming from IBM, what made you want to be a part of the Foundation?

Rick: Having a chance to give back through a professional job is really attractive to me. When I met with Tiger during the whole interview process, it was so clear that he is not only interested in the Foundation but totally committed to what we do and trying to make it even bigger. This job is really special – I think it’s the work we do and the benefits to the world.

Q: What was your favorite memory/moment during your first year here?

R: There have been a lot of things that stand out, but the Winter Workshop for the Earl Woods Scholarship Program is where I began to have more of an emotional attachment to what we do. When I went out to the workshop and saw 16 incredibly mature kids that were going to do great things get up and speak about their experiences of four years in college, as well as their experiences working with their mentors and staff. It was hard to get through that without your eyes swelling up. It’s a terrific event.

Q: What are your thoughts about our Earl Woods Scholarship Program?

R: It is the best part of my job! You guys have come to the table with the tremendous tools to do well. We’re just helping you with what you are destined to achieve. We’re finding people who have potential to do great things and we’re just helping them to realize their potential.

Q: What are five words you would use to sum up this great foundation?

R: Helping kids realize their potential.

It was a pleasure speaking with Rick, and I feel even more grateful and appreciative now for the profound benefits and opportunities from the Tiger Woods Foundation that I am lucky to have.
